What is a charter school?
Charter schools are independently-operated public schools. Parents can choose to send their children to a public charter school outside of their “zoned” public school. There is no charge or tuition to attend a public charter school. While charter schools have flexibility in choosing curriculum and developing innovative teaching practices, charter schools must test students and report results, just like the government-operated public schools, as required by federal and state laws.

What sets Winton Preparatory Academy apart from other schools?
Winton offers a choice for parents and students within the public school system. Winton is often referred to as a private school without the tuition. We place a high emphasis on parent involvement and require parent participation. Our curriculum allows for small group learning to take place allowing the teacher to focus on the needs of the individual child. Students learn PBL ( Project Based Learning) with a focus on technology.
Do I need to pay tuition to have my child enrolled?
No. Our school is free to attend.
Is there a uniform?
Yes. Students are required to wear a burgundy or white polo shirt with khaki pants, a black belt, and black shoes with black or white socks.
Are extra-curricular programs offered?
Yes. We currently offer a technology and chess club, as well as a reading and tutoring club. We are always looking for community volunteers to assist with after-school programs.
Are there opportunities for students to use technology?
Yes. All classrooms are equipped with Google Chrome Books and/or tablets. The building also has a computer lab outfitted with 20 computers.
Does Winton Preparatory Academy provide transportation?
Yes. We offer free yellow bus service to students within a two-mile radius from the school.
Are Winton’s teachers certified?
Every Winton Teacher is certified to teach in the subject and grade-level to which they are assigned. All staff is highly qualified.
